Really, every day should be a celebration of mothers and the special people who raised us or our offspring. But life does tend to get in the way of that, so a day just for them is a nice moment to pause and appreciate the infinite love that comes with the job.
While Mother’s Day is marked across many countries, in Australia, it’s celebrated on the second Sunday of May and has been since 1924, when Sydney woman Janet Heyden began collecting gifts for mothers in Newington Hospital who’d lost their husbands or sons during World War I.
These days, there’s plenty of push to lavish primary caregivers with flowers and such, but it’s worth remembering that simply spending time together over a lovely meal is the most cherished gift of all.
