You’ve just saved valuable time by side-stepping the grocery run and meal-planning. If you’ve added goods and goodies from our Top Ups range to your box, you’re entitled to feel even more smug. Surely you popped in a little chocolate bar for yourself? You should. Alright, let’s get down to business. The box is here, so how do you store everything inside for optimal freshness through the week?

Meat matters

First up, if you’ve ordered meals that contain meat or fish, you’ll want to unpack it right away and pop any meat on the bottom shelf of your fridge, which is the coolest part. As we know from school science, hot air rises and that applies to the fridge, too.

Keeping it crisp

Most of your vegetables will go directly in your crisper. Although, there are a few exceptions here. Such as tomatoes that are happy to sit on the bench and potatoes and onions that need to be stored separately in a cool, dark place like the pantry.

Avo not good to go?

If your avocado has arrived a bit too firm for use, then pop it in the fruit bowl with some bananas. The ethylene gas released by bananas help to ripen nearby fruit. So also keep this in mind if your avo is already soft and you don’t want to use it just yet.

Herb rules

Your fresh herbs need to be unwrapped from their sleeves straightaway. For basil, pop it in a glass of water on the bench, away from heat. For other herbs, such as parsley and coriander, wrap them up in slightly damp paper towel or clean tea towel and pop in the crisper.

The rest of it

You haven’t made it this far in life without knowing where the dairy and dry goods are kept, so unpack those and you’re left with the cool packs and box. You can reuse the icepacks again and again, just pop them in your freezer. All other cardboard and paper can be recycled kerbside. So please pop in your recycling bin.
